Paris Opéra Compétition

Paris Opéra Compétition

A competition for the Opera’s most talented singers.

The Paris Opera Competition

The Paris Opera Competition is dedicated to discovering fresh talent and introducing opera to a wider public. Every two years, the association organizes an international competition in search of the most beautiful operatic voices. From this global pool, six young prodigies are invited to Paris. After a week of intensive preparation with a stage director, an orchestral conductor, and vocal coach, a jury votes to award several prizes, including one awarded by the public at the finale.

The jury is comprised of the most prestigious Operas in the world : New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, Moscow’s Bolshoi, London’s Royal Opera House, the Dutch National Opera, and the Operas of Munich, Berlin, Lausanne, and Chicago.

After the finale, a charity dinner will be held to raise funds for the association.

The goals of the competition are :

To serve as the foremost resource for emerging operatic talents

To offer to young singers a professional and global spring-board to launch their careers

To promote and spread French culture throughout the world (mainly by highlighting the French Operatic repertory).

Recognizing the difficulty for young opera singers to make a name for themselves and find professional engagements, The Dassault Group started collaborating with the Paris Opera Competition in 2014 and, in 2017, became their primary partner, so as to support the competition and the young talents it discovers.

The 2021 competition has been postponed until January 22, 2022, and will take place at the Opera Garnier for the first time.
